Mongolia is a beautiful, rugged nation. Many years ago, in the days of Genghis Kahn, its people ruled the Asian continent. Over time and through changes in politics, Mongolia's nomadic culture struggled to adjust to the world's progress. As China and Japan chipped away at their empire, Mongolia needed a modern ally. They found that partner in the Soviet Union.

At the time of the Cold War, Mongolia had developed a heavy dependency on the Soviet Union. 80% of their trade was with the Soviets. One third of their economy was supported by Soviet Financial Aid. They were Mongolia's only source for fuel, medicine, and spare parts for its factories and power plants.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, the Mongolian economy disappeared with it. Overnight they lost their only trade partner and a huge source of aid.

In the last 15 years, Mongolia has struggled to rebuild their government and economy. It is plagued by poor economic growth, corruption, and inflation. Many large humanitarian projects are trying their best to help with the still devastating effects of the Soviet collapse. But in the midst of it all there was a huge issue with long-term consequences that was getting lost in the shuffle; ensuring the education and training of the up and coming generation.

edurelief was founded to help make a difference specifically in this area. This generation is key to the future of the country of Mongolia; it is the generation of change, the first generation that will full develop in Mongolia as an independent country. These are the children that will rebuild the economic destruction that was left behind after the collapse of the Soviet Union, these are the children that will lay the foundation that Mongolia will be built upon. These are the children that are dropping out of education that will help them create a better way of life for their country because they lack $20 of textbooks. These are the children that we are going to help.
