Birch Grove Ecopark
The Birch Grove Ecopark is an ecology initiative started in partnership with the Bugat county government. The goal of the initiative is to teach the local community and students the importance of nature and forest protection and to involve them in restoring deforested areas. The park located outside Erdenet City (see map) in an area that has been devastated by illegal logging, discarded garbage, and overgrazing. By creating an example, we aim to promote awareness of these issues and encourage the preservation and restoration of similar at-risk areas around Mongolia.
Why it’s important
With increasingly harsh weather, harmful mining practices, deforestation, and overgrazing, Mongolia is facing a potential environmental disaster which could have widespread effects. It is crucial to begin educating and encouraging communities and their younger generations to protect their land and country now from these destructive activities.
With local community members and students we intend to plant hundreds of trees. Seminars on land management, upkeep, and forest protection are being developed to educate the local community on the importance of these issues. With your help we can accomplish this and inspire other communities to do the same for their areas.
